On a hot summer morning on Manhattan’s west side, the sight of a debutante in a black dress, wearing what appeared to be a most uncomfortable pair of high heels, planted the seed for the title track on Richard Julian’s latest, Sunday Morning in Saturday’s Shoes.  Julian recalls, “There was no way she’d gotten dressed that way that morning.”

Such attentive observation is a staple of Julian’s songwriting, on full display in his fifth full-length album (and second for Manhattan.) "...a voice as distinctive as a thumbprint...if only more songwriters - and more people -
had his balance of wit and fortitude."

Jim Farber/New York Daily News

"his razor-sharp acoustic-spun vignettes about life in the big city and its varied inhabitants - coupled
with his honey-and-sand vocals - make this a charmingly understated effort...
Julian's sparkling guitar work shines throughout, as does his wit."
Philadelphia Inquirer

"Julian [displays] nimble lyricism as he sings his character-driven, keenly observational songs.
With each clever, low-key, dusky line, he shows why we should sit up and notice him.”
Harp Magazine

"...a literate storyteller for whom songwriting is a craft not an occupation, who observes and comments
with a painter's eye and a filmmaker's vision... "
NetRhythms

"This New Yorker tosses off self-addressed put-downs with the ease of the young Springsteen
during his acoustic Jersey-boy period.”
Entertainment Weekly
